Indesign Export cmyk pdfs - spot colours still appear

As above - exporting pdfs from Indesign CS using a cmyk setting in my export options still gives me a spot colour pdf file.

Is this a bug? Do you people who use Indesign all the time use the export to pdf function or postscript and distill?

I think it might be that the convert spot colours to cmyk tick box may not be ticked in the option for cmyk conversion (it is offsite) but i thought i would ask what other users experience is.

We have had no major issues with Indesign pdf's into Prinergy so far but our major customers always seem to postscript and distill.

When converting spot to cmyk on refiining in Prinergy we gat a lot of white boxes stuffing up the image on the pages and have to go back to the client for a proper cmyk converted pdf file.

Thanks, Dennis Wyers.

that would help, or open the color from the swatch pallet and make the spot - cmyk to begin with. it's always a good idea to have a solid/technically correct native file from the get-go.

i export pdf out to a hotfolder designated for cmyk or spot color. pitstop server grabs it, preflights, maybe corrects, and drops in a "ready for the next step" folder. (whatever it may be)

Unfortunately, spot to process conversion cannot be built into an export preference. It's a document-specific setting that you have to select with each job you export directly to PDF (please correct me if I'm mistaken).

If you were looking for it: Output Tab > Ink Manager

We're also using Prinergy, primarily with InDesign. The white boxes you're seeing are likely just the normal effects of transparency flattening (as magnified on screen). Just make sure that you don't have any layouts with both spots and transparency and the white boxes shouldn't cause any output problems. Odds are that Prinergy is refining automatically down to 1.3 PDFs.
