New to me, warning in Illustrator

Has anyone come across this warning in Illustrator?

An unknown imaging construct was encountered.

The file was supplied as a pdf, looks like it was created in Quark. I have not seen this warning before and I am not sure what it is? I do not have a printout from my customer to compare to?

Thanks, Yes. I actually opened it is Acrobat, saved it as an eps. The eps opened in illustrator with no warning. I am thinking it was something done in Quark...? I do not have Quark 7, so I can't replicate to see if I come up with the same warning. I am proofing what I have and will add a disclaimer when I send it out. I will post if I come up with an answer.

a safer way might be to place it in indy and re-pdf out from there

but if what you've done works - then cool

I did not receive the warning in Illustrator this time because it converted the image to process??? It must be something with colorizing in Quark and the type of pdf they are creating. I tried to place the pdf in Illy and it would not let me convert to a different spot color, was 485 and they want 186.
Worst case scenario, I may fudge it to get it approved and double burn the plate. Never the right answer but amazing what a deadline can do to a job.

When opening Client supplied Pdf files in Illustrator (CS2) I get that message Every time.
Along with ' Unknowing shading error ' (usually 2-5x in a row)

Cant say why.

"Thanks, Yes. I actually opened it is Acrobat, saved it as an eps. The eps opened in illustrator with no warning."

You opened it in Acrobat and saved as an Eps.... (( doesnt this flatten the work and transparency ect, is this not a bad thing? ))
Now your newly created .eps did not give you warnings in Illy the next time you opened it?

( sorry trying to clear things up for myself )

"a safer way might be to place it in indy and re-pdf out from there"

I keep reading this but Im never sure what settings to use when creating (or re creating) a pdf.

I have received that Unknown shading error before and have gotten around it. This one was new to me. I am going to double burn the plate for now.

If clients knew what they were doing, I would be out of a job.
