Illustrator stopped workng.

We have 3 IMACS, all are Intel Core 2 Duo. We're running CS3 on all 3 machines since late May. Yesterday, on one machine only, Illustrator wouldn't open. It would quit while trying to open. We tried the re-install and repair options, then we did a complete re-install of the entire CS3 and still Illustrator will not open. Any ideas?

trash all illustrator prefs files, check you have no corrupt fonts, repair permissions, empty caches, run maintenance scripts with whatever utilities you may have and see if it boots then

have you or someone else downloaded ANY updates/upgrades? (any software not just cs)

does anything else cs run?

does quack run?

trying to narrow it down from a system issue to a specific illy issue - you say illy will not run - do you get the splash screen up then it freezes? if you do, is it hinting at loading something when it freezes?

or can you boot up and it plain doesnt work?

believe it or not, I had this exact thing happen to me on my Mac at home.

When it was installed, something happened to some of the support files used by Illy. I ended up hacking into the app itself and replaced the entire folder called "frameworks" from another copy of Illy.

****WARNING!!! HACK ALERT*****
****PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK****

Here's how I fixed mine:

First go to your Utilities folder and launch Console.
I can't remember which, but check the console log or system log and see what pops up when you try to launch Illustrator. It should mention something about not finding or a corrupt frameworks file.
If it does, do the following:

navigate to you applications folder/Illustrator folder and right mouse click on the application itself.
Click on "show package contents"
Inside this you will see a folder called frameworks.
If you have a working app, go to that one and copy the frameworks folder from there and take that and replace the one in the non working app.

proceed at your own risk, worse case scenario, you hosed a non-working app. You may have a bad Install DVD.

good luck and may the force be with you.

Bad fonts have always been the culprit when this has happened to me in the past.

Works with new user.

Thanks for all the replies. We tried creating a new user account and Illustrator does launch while logged under it. We're going to check the user fonts rom the New account with the user fonts from the account that Illustrator won't launch and see if something stands out.

Does anyone have any insight on that?
