Illustrator CS2 - Photoshop Spot colors

I am working on an illustrator file that uses 2/c multichannel (Black + Spot) files from photoshop. I am working in photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2. When I try to place the PSD files in illustrator, illustrator says that they are in a format that cannot be placed. Does anyone have any idea of a format that I can save them out of photoshop (besides DCS2) that I can place successfully in Illy?

Thanks.

Don't make it "Multichannel" mode. If you are using Black, target that channel and convert to Grayscale (don't worry - your spot channel will remain intact.)

Now you can save as .PSD and it will import into Illy with no problem.
