Overprinting spot colors export
Here's a tricky one....
I've created a nice logo in Illustrator blending spot colors to give depth, etc. I had to use the overprint method and show overprint to get it to work. It works ok at our Apogee rip but when you try and print it to a Docutech it strips away the overprint settings.
Anyway, what I'm trying to do is rasterize the logo in photoshop but the same problem comes up......the overprints do not work even though when I saved the file I checked off the overprint setting. Tried saving as ai as well with no luck.
Any ideas? (I could always take a screenshot on our biggest monitor but I HATE doing that nonsense.)

I would try placing it in InDesign and then exporting a 1.3 PDF which will flatten it. ID usually does a pretty nice job of flattening. Good luck.

Depending on the rip you use for the Docutec, it could be very difficult to
get it to work. Our rip is a very old PS level 2 rip, and I have big troubles when
I try to send a modern file through it. Joe's method should work, but another
option would be to print the document to file, then Distill it. I have pretty good
luck with that sometimes. The Docutec PPD (PC version) seems to work pretty
well, sometimes.
I feel your pain, for what it's worth.

ah, no pain YET........
I'm just thinking down the road if this client wants a business card or something else printed on a digital printer.
And the client is my WIFE (she's in sales at this company) so if I don't figure this out the POTENTIAL for major pain exists. On the workfront AND on the homefront.
But that's why God invented Vodka...

You might want to try making it 4c process for the Docutech. It probably is having difficulties with the spots and overprinting, but if you eliminate the spot factor...

I know one thing...everyone in this business is going to come across this sick situation sooner or later. I can't help but thinking though that there is something really simple I'm missing here. Hope so...

Sure. Attach the AI file to your post here as an attachment. I'll give it a go. No promises though!
