spot color blend with black
Wondering if anyone has ever had to produce anything In Illcs2 which blends a spot color with black? I know Quark has had this feature for quite a while (multi-ink).
As it stands now I'm creating duotones in Photoshop and linking them in Illustrator but that scares me a bit.

? Why Illustrator you have no page-layout for placement of the duo's? As long as they are linked and you keep the links with the Illy file you should be fine.

it's for a company logo and I want the flexibility to put it in many different scenarios therefore the circles we're making as duotones have clipping paths.....for example it may need to be used on a colored background or a photo someday....

Now I understand.
What I have done in the past is to take a guess as to what my most used size for the logo would be and build it to that size in Illustrator. Then (only because of the banding or other gradient concersns in Illy) I will open the .eps file in Photoshop and set the resolution to what I will need for that specific job, making sure to add a minor amount of noise to the gradients to help smooth them out at output time. Then bring that logo into the current job. Depending on the amount of text in the file or solid colors I might just do this with the gradients and keep everything else in Illy, like your doing now, or bring everything into Photoshop and keep the vector type or graphics on separate layers and save it out as a PSD file. Either way there are many ways to skin this cat.

thanks Sparky, it's a work in progress and so far the logo places in .indd as transparent with the eps balls in the logo

It's probably a visual, can you post a "sample" of what you doing without revealing the actual logo?

What you did won't work because you need to upload the jpeg to a server first. You have one here on the Forums, it's under My Uploads in the sidebar.
Use the tags

Make new file 350 dpi
Build Gradient Blends in Photo Shop. never use 0 color use 2 or 3%
Add Noise 1.5 to 2.5
Filter gausien blur 1 to 1.5
Save as Tiff or EPS
Bring in to Illustrator create circle to make same size ball
Goto Object dropdown
Got to clipping then select make
Now the ball will be set with your needed clipping path
I did have it just tried

well thanks for the info....
I've made it up for now and it works with my little eps duotone balls and all.
Still can't figure out how to upload a screen shot into here though..funny...it's sort of like microsoft word to me, can't figure that one out either...
I can play photoshop, Illustrator, Quark and Indesign like a piano but can't get crap out of Word or upload an image in here..
But I'm pissed off and I'll probobly figure out how to stuff that jpeg into this box...
Word, however???? I doubt it...
