Text reflow in Illustrator 10

Does anyone have a solution for this: We have 5 G5's, when we open some Illustrator 10 files on 2 of the machines some type will flow differently than it does on the other 3 machines. All machines are using Suitcase X1 and I've made sure the same fonts are open from the same place. I've also checked to make sure all preferences are set the same, and even tried copying the text filter set from one machine to the other but the text still rewraps. The kerning seems to be a little looser on the 2 machines that have the problem (and those 2 machines match each other), if I save the file down to Illustrator 8, then the kerning tightens and the text when opened in Ill 8 then matches the other 3 machines. This only happens in Ill 10, files that come in in Ill 8, CS, or CS2 are fine, but unfortunately 2 of our main clients send all their files in in 10.

Don't you get the warning about Legacy text when you open AI 10 files in CS or CS2???
We outline the fonts in AI 10 before we proceed using CS2, for this very reason.....

Yes I do get the warning, and we outline text also for the same reasons, that's not the problem. The Problem is when we open the same file on 2 different machines in Illustrator 10.

try loading your fonts thru FontBook. Are your boxes Tiger or Panther?

I have to use Suitcase Fusion on my Tiger box.

The strange thing is this, one of the boxes with the problem is running Panther with Suitcase X1 and the other is running Tiger with Suitcase Fusion, so I don't think that's the problem. And I'd really like to avoid having to use Fontbook (besides I dont think the other operator's will cooperate doing that).

It sounds like your system fonts are different between the 2 machines, and those system fonts are being substituted instead of the customers fonts, Try sticking the customers supplied fonts into the User/Library/Fonts folder on both machines and see if that solves your problem. The system should look there first for fonts. We strictly use font book to manage fonts, and keep seperate folders of fonts for each file. Placing that folder in the User font folder every time we open the job.

I thought of that, and I checked all the system fonts on each machine to make sure that they were all using the same fonts from the same location, the only thing I can think of at this point is that it has something to do with Illustrator 10 that I can't find.[/i]

I tried a test: I made sure the fonts giving us a problem were not in the system fonts and I activated the fonts need using Font Book, (I turned off Suitcase). No luck - the fonts still rewrapped the same way :x

Are you putting the files fonts in the User/Library/fonts folder?

No, but I don't really want to do that. We get so many fonts from many different clients that we try to make sure we are using their fonts when working on their jobs.
