Illustrator CS - Type traps to screened image beneath

I know this one has bit us all sometime and I can't for the life of me remember a work-around.

Client sends an Illy CS file with placed tiff files that have ghosted edges. There is type in Illy. The type is trapping to the ghosted image and then the trap drops off at the edge of the image. SO the type is SPREADING til it gets to the edge of the image. Doesn't look too good.

Any Save the Friday ideas (go fishing doesn't work!)

Thanks!

Sounds like you have transparency involved with that file. Check your "flattener" settings. You may need to place the tif separate in a page-layout app and set the Illy text eps on top depending on your output equipment.

Well, our workflow is 99% Preps. I took the files into Indesign and did the trapping there, rather than letting our rip do the trapping. nThis seems to have taken care of the problem. So there must be a tolerance or threshold in the AGFA rip that we need to address. Thanks for the input...that's what I would do, but it's hard to tell a client to do that when there's other printers in town.
