Photoshop image with spot channel into Illustrator CS2
Does anyone know how I can get a multichannel photoshop file with a spot channel into Illustrator CS2? I have a client that uses spot channels quite a bit but always used Illustrator 8 and it was fine. Now, they want to use CS2 but CS2 won't let you place an image with a spot channel. FYI, opening the file in Indesign is not an option, per the client.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

IlyCS2 will let you place a Photoshop DCS2, however you get a warning message when doing so, and it seem to convert everything to 4CP.
I suggest you have them save PSD's instead. I have not had a problem placing multichannel PSD's into Illustrator.

I just tried it and I get the exact opposite.
I can place (into Illy CS2) and print out a dcs2.0 eps file with 5 channels but I cannot place a multichannel .psd file (unsupported format error).
???

ok, I SWEAR that earlier today I was NOT able to place a multichannel DCS 2.0 file into Illustrator and now I can. Time to hit the bar I think.
So, I can place the DCS 2.0 file into Illustrator, but my rip error's out saying it can't find the spot channel plate Pantone 265 CVC..... blah bllah blah.

Did you print seperations or composite?
You have to print seps for DCS2 to work properly.

You better call RAMPAGE then,I doubt it can handle a DCS2.

Well, I think their new version, which we will be getting in the next couple weeks, will be able to handle it. It can handle Illustrator 8 files with placed DCS2.0 files, cause I've done about 500 of them over the last few years. I don't know what CS2 is doing different to them that Illus 8 didn't do.
Thanks for all your input on this!
