DCS2 image placed into illustrator does not seperated
I have a supplied illustrator cs doc with a ps dcs2 eps image placed inside it. The spot colour in the dcs2 eps will not seperate when I print from illustrator with seps turned on. Anyone got a workaround. I don't really want to rebuild the whole document in InDesign

As far as I know Adobe has never supported placing DCS2 files into Illustrator for output. You might try placing into Indesign and placing the Illustrator part on top of or below the DCS2 files to get the desired effect.

Get rid of the DCS and make a psd
Here's a little how to i wrote a while back
Quote:
WARNING !!!!
I have not tested this in earlier version of Illustrator and Photoshop then CS
Open your DCS 2 file in photoshop, make sure its not in multichannel and well in cmyk mode.
You need to have at least one layer, ( if you have a layer called Background with the little locket on it, it wont work. )
Double click your Background layer to make it Layer 0.
.:: DO NOT FLATEN THE DOCUMENT ::.
In Photoshop CS save the file as a .psd ( you should see a window asking to maximize compatibility, use this option. )
Then in Illustrator CS replace ( via the link pallet ) your EPS DCS 2 files with your new .psd file.
You will not be able to down res images in Acrobat i recommend doing your PDF's from illustrator.
I am using this method to insert Illustrator/Photoshop with spot color files in to Prinergy, instead of using Sampler for DCS.

Hope this helps in the future.

DCS in Illustrator
DCS in Illustrator does work but I think with DCS files you have to be very careful to include at least one channel (empty if necessary) from a recognised colourspace (Grayscale or CMYK). If the document is a multichannel mode document, it tends to cause problems plus if you put it on grayscale or cmyk you get your JPEG compression option back instead of just ASCII and binary. Try this and see if it separates correctly.
