Logos overprinting

Hi everyone,
Has anyone had a problem with Illy CS concerning white logos reversing out of solid backgrounds? I have noticed several times with different clients that random letters or numbers in their logos are overprinting when they should knockout to white. My lasers and the client's lasers look fine. The PDF normalized in our workflow looks fine but when viewing the riped file it's wrong. When I look at the Illy file itself those elements are set to overprint, but its random! It could be a version conflict (we are using the old Apogee2 workflow). I think it's a bug in Illy because the elements are set to overprint such as a half a word or every other number, but the lasers and the PDFs look good. Anyone have a clue?

not sure if its a bug but select one of the "white" bits, go?select same fill and uncheck the overprint box.

not a "riddle" solver but it'll work

That's what I have done to correct the jobs. It's a killer cause it's the type of error that can get by the best of trouble shooters and end up on press and we all know that's a mortal sin.

crap yeah?it's happened to me?and probably many in PPF too

its one of them "it'll never happen twice" things?til it happens again then it's a "it'll never happen thrice?" etc etc?

we used to have this Fiery RIP that ran an epson 5000. looked nice, printer fairly well?nice colour - until i found it didnt show trapping/overprints.

unfortunately it was tooooo late by then?daaaarrrrgh!

maybe there's an action set or script that'll pick up the white overprint thing?

What's strange is that the ripped file is correct. It shows that the job is wrong. But the normalized Pdf looks correct, never seen that happen before. We use the same 1bit tiffs for making proofs and plates so the error will show up on the clients proofs and plates but not anyones lasers. And we do have a postscripted laser printer--very strange.

Turn on Overprint Preview in Acrobat 6 or above when viewing your PDF's and it will show as being wrong.

In IllSC you can check that in the Printing Dialg.. go to Summary and check the warrning box if there is an overprint object you will read this message there the document contains overprinting.
