Color problems with Black, Pantone Black CV, etc
Ok, another weird Illustrator CS problem.
A customer of ours loads their files to their FTP site.
We go and download the files to our desktop.
They are PC based, and we download the files directly to a PC.
They never do any trapping or black over prints on 10% PMS screens.
So, I open them in CS, and set the blacks to overprint on the screens, and resave them.
When I then import the .eps files into Quark 6.5, and paginate them into printers spreads.
Then we print out of Quark to an HP 8100 for color seps. for fax proofing. For some strange reason, we then get a Black (all the type), and a Process Black CV (Imported Photoshop .tifs), and the PMS color.
When I drop their .eps files into Quark and print the same way, it only shows as Black and the PMS color. (Yet, their file wont work, because of no trapping or overprint)
Has anyone else come across this problem, or know why a simple re-save will create a 3rd color??
Any insight, hints, or ideas would be appreciated.
If you want, I can send the original .eps file, and my re-saved version for someone to investigate.
Thanks
Scott

Re: Color problems with Black, Pantone Black CV, etc
Try resaving the photos so the Monotone/Duotone color is just "Black" and not "PANTONE Process Black CV". You might also want to check your Illustrator file for "PANTONE Process Black CV".

I agree, you might make sure this color isn't residing in your color palette in Illustrator. But it is likely the imported tiff monotone color is set as PANTONE Process Black CV.

If the file is not too big, post it to your uploads (original file and post back with the link) and I'll take a look at it for you.

They may have created the color and not put it in the color palette. Copy and paste the entire layer into a new layer and see if the colors show up. Or you can select an items that is showing up as the pantone in illustrator then select-same fill and stroke and see what it selects. Seems like they created a color and removed it out of the palette.
