Illustrator files from Artpro

I have a lovely job at the moment :?

I have artwork that has been saved back from Artpro to Illustrator?

What it's given is files of the seperations <kinda like 1 bit tiffs?ya know?black> as opposed to editable elements in Illustrator. Illustrator wouldnt open them, and has embedded all sorts of elements in the job too.

What i've had to do on some is open the files in Photoshop - that's all the seperations for the job - and piece together on new layers and colorize. Then I had to trap it?and there were spot colours and white out areas in the spot with black drop shadows that had to overprint the spot. Think about it??load selections?save selections?add to selections?subtract from etc etc?all good fun

Ohh and I had one embedded image out of cyan and magenta when the job was 2 spots?I had to change one of the spots to cyan?

and thats just the easy stuff i've done so far?dont get me started on the rest of it?

changing dcs spot colours to cmyk whilst increasing the curve to boost the new processs colours?made me head spinn 8O

Sounds like you got a separated PS file from ArtPro.
I've been exporting from AP to Ill for years and it works fine.
You wouldn't even know it came from AP.

yeah I got the seperated ps.

screwed up slightly as when i opened them in photoshop I opened at 300 dpi?prob should have done at about 1200 min really?but then there was file size issues to think about?

bloody stuff?

doesnt artpro interpret traps in a strange way though? strokes become shapes don't they?

some of this artwork has obviously had channel re-mapping done in artpro and it's not come across to Illy in a way that will give the desired result on press, so i've had to be creative in getting it from where it is

bit of a nightmare all round
