drop shadows

ok - am having brain malfunction - help

box in illustrator has a drop shadow - the colour of the shadow is set to black 100% and blend is multiply

so why, when pdf'd out is that drop shadow now out of 4 process as opposed to black only? i even set it to normal and its the same result

illy cs2 and 3 are the same - like i said - my brain is not working

pdf out was press quality. set to output blacks accurately as well - jeez what am i missing
