Smoothing Curves in MetaDim Calibration Manager

We have a QMDI Pro. We use the MetaDimension Calibration Manager to control our TVI.

We set our target values for dot gain, run some calibration press sheets without any calibration, measure them and Calibration Manager creates a calibration file which is suppose to hit the targets.

It has worked in the past.

Now, we have set a target of 68% for K at 50%. We run the cal press sheet. It measures 68.3. Re-run the cal press sheet with the calibration and it should come out 68 right? Nope. 63. I have made the press guy re-run it three times because I told him he was clearly not hitting his densities. Same basic result each time.

When I look at the measurements, the 45% is showing more gain than the 50%. When the Calibration Manager does its thing, I am thinking it is somewhat compensating for the gain between 45-50.

So... I am thinking I need to use the smoothing function... but, I have three main choices: Polynom 4, Spline and Polynom 2.

I have no idea which one I should use...

Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill
