Processor Waste Question

I'm looking for a more cost effective way to dispose of the waste produced by our processor. Right now we direct all the runoff to 55 gallon barrels outside, when they fill up to a certain amount I call Safety-Kleen and get a pick up, they haul it off and leave us a new barrel. The problem is that it is really expensive especially on weeks when I'm cleaning, most of the waste is just rinse water. So I'm considering investing in an evaporator unit to reduce the number of times per month we have to call for a pick up. I know the waste by-product of the plate processor is some pretty exciting stuff to talk about so I really appreciate any input you might have on this subject.

Difficulty = We are located out in the country so a city sewer system is not available.

You have no drain you could use to dump it - if the PH was ok?
Ours is "cleaned".. filtered and filtered and filtered then is sent down the drain.
Sorry - not much help here....

I just checked and we do have a city system available. A plumber is coming out to run a direct line to it... Problem solved.

Standing by for the next calamity.

How are you checking your PH? I guess I should be monitoring that?

No kidding about the @ss load of money. Safety-Kleen charges $450 per pick up and at out current rate I could easily have them come out two or three times a month.

You need to check with your local sewerage commision but in most places you can not put anything down the drain untreated that has a higher than 7 PH.
You more than likely will need to get a metafix unit to pretreat the waste before you drain.
Check with your local officials as putting straight waste with a pH higher than 7 into the drain will get you a big $$$$ fine from Mr. EPA.

Just some friendly advice.

Thanks Mr. Claus, that's exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. What ph test kit do you use? Could I use this test kit from Grainger?

Very True. You need to check into it w/ the locals.
My waste runs thru several filters, etc, the PH is always around the 6.x mark.

Thanks Vee I didn't know Heidelberg sold the kits. You know I have the Neutralization Filtration System, I wonder if the PH reading I get from that is the outgoing PH?
