Thanks Mark. I'm helping some "friends" find some information and that's about everything I needed to know right there.

I'm using Image Control to do the reading.
It reads the target in just one step

Here's a link to it Lammy Prinect Image Control .
It's a pretty sweet setup, we've been talking seriously about getting it. We're supposed to have a demo setup to go down and see it, I'm not sure when that will be but I'll try to get back in here and let you know what I see.

Lammy,

Image Control is great but it would never be bought to just read targets for profiles. The main function of Image Control is to spectrophotmically scan the press sheet and compare it to the digital master for ink key pres settings from prepress or another scan of the press sheet. It reads the whole 8 up sheet with about 160,000 samplings in about 30 seconds. The press operator can then look at the monitor and see how close he is to the target. If off, he just hits ok to automatically have the keys adjust to get closer to the master. Great production device and can be used with several presses. As a side note, great for reading targets for generating profiles.

Regards,

Mark

I use ImageControl with heidelberg colour solutions (the all package; mini spots, calibrations, profile, press and proof, etc, etc) and with two heidelberg presses (4 presses i think is the limit) for first sheet measure and during production for quality control.
I use cip3 since 1998 but now with “image control” the operator work gets easier and cip 3 it´s not so important.
Almost everyone can print now

NFerreira,

You have one complete system there! What features do you like the most?

How are the Mini Spots working for you? Could you also elaborate on it for the benefit of forum members.

Thanks,

Regards,

Mark

I would like to clear up a couple things regarding the Meta proofing workflow....

Here is what's needed to have a successful color matching workflow with Heidelberg software:

- MetaDimension & ColorProofPro (Comes as a package)
- PrintOpen & XRite DTP41 Spectrophotometer (Comes as a package or seperate)

That's pretty much it!

Here are some more detailed descriptions of each:

ColorProofPro is used to generate a paper linearization and provides the connection to the proofer. A paper linearization calculates the amount of each ink to spray on the particular type of paper for best results.

Meta Dimension is used to apply the paper linearizations, proof icc profiles and the press icc profiles to a particular output workflow.

PrintOpen (part of Profiling Toolbox) reads the color patches in and generates icc profiles. You need a spectrophotometer to connect with PrintOpen to read the patches. The new PrintOpen has a wonderful profile analysis capability. You can compare it to any particular standard that you have set to see how far off your current reading is. PrintOpen does not do any term analysis, that is what Quality Monitor is for.

Quality Monitor uses a small group of patches (16 I think) that you can put on the press sheet or proofs of all jobs so you can build up a collection of readings. These readings can be charted and studied over a period of time within Quality Monitor. I think you can even export the results as an Excel format, not sure though.
