NexPress and Digimaster

Does anyone use either the NexPress or Digimaster from Heidelberg. We are using both and are doing alot of Variable Data jobs. I would be interested in other printers experience with this procedure.

I work for a small company using one Canon ImageRunner 110, very similiar to the Digimaster 9110.

We are using PlantPress 3.0 for the Variable application. My biggest problem with vdp is getting a useable data file from the customer.Text is either in ALL CAPS or missing some fields. I have had to learn more about Excel & VBA than I really wanted to, & this was mostly on my free time. If you face the same, one of the best things (for Free) that I can offer is www.asap-utilities.com.

I would love to hear more about the NexPress. We got into the "Quick Print" market with the 110. Then I had to find a niche for vdp. One thing that seems to be common sense for the client is numbering. So we do alot of 2 & 3 part numbered forms, for far less than our typical source for crash numbering.

Currently working on a vdp job that prints for a national association every quarter, they actually wanted us to compile the data from their 5000+ roster, I have convinced, I hope that I will create a template of the needed fields, then thier roster should submit that, instead of 1000 Excel, 1000 Word, 1000 tab delimited & 1000 csv files & then trying to match up the fields. Blew thier minds when it came time to tell them that the photos & logos also had to be referenced in the data file.

So, if you are the operator, then education of both sales & client staff is essential, before you get in way over your head with time constraints. Like with the above, if 1 minute per data file, if 5000 members, then how many minutes to compile a MasterData file? Not including poorly scanned or cropped photos & logos.

We use Creo's Darwin app to handle variable data. It works as a plugin alongside Quark.
We use it for all manner of things but mainly to handle what's been described in the two leading UK print publications as 'the most complex variable data job in the UK'

Our Digital Plant is 100% NexPress.
Meaning, we have a NexPress, DigiMaster, and NexPress-supplied Variable-Data software.

The Plant opened last December.
We've hit our bumps and growing pains over that time, but things are smoothing out.

I can't give much more feedback, because I've had nothing to compare it too.

Anything particular you're looking for feedback on?
