Harlequin RIP help!
We have got a very old version (ver. 5) of a Harlequin RIP and we used to have in the active queue a kinda plate stopper which anything behind the plate stopper would not print unless you move the job above it!
Now someone has deleted the plate stopper and I can't figure out how to create it again! It was a little handy thing to have.
I'm not sure if it was a setting or a job that is told not to process but I've looked everywhere and can't figure out how to create it again.
Please help!

haha - must be a way to do it - maybe it was a custom .ps file or something.

Yep, we've got the same "stopper" file in our Harlequin queue....quite handy when you want to put through a big batch of plates and not have to sit there watching them go. I think how we did it was to create a page size larger than the maximum plate size, and then send it through. It would RIP okay, and enter the queue, but it would cancel out everytime because the dimensions were too big to image. Hope that helps!

thats right
additionally theres a setting that refers to allowing/bouncing jops that exceed your maximum size

it should depend on what Plugin you are using, using a tiff plugin job will probably output any size job, but would give an error if an invalid ouput path is set

Dear Longy,
I think it would be a better Idea to get a Independent output controller for your queue. I am sure there is a software that helps the oldest version of the RIP. Do not forget the the efficent way to use the RIP is only to RIP and not to use it as an output controller. You are wasting your time with the jobs in the queue.
Apart from that if you could give me a remote connection to your output controller I would be more than happy to have a look and give you some advice as I have been doing this all my life.
Cheers n Good luck!

I tried the larger size method but it just throws up a pop screen showing the job bigger then the plate and then sticks the job into the held queue
I can't find allowing/bouncing jobs option anywhere? do you know roughly where it is?
Many thanks...
Also Prathap thank you for the offer - We are hopefully upgrading soon to a better CTP system as ours is very old (stilling running on windows NT).
Any reason its not the most efficient way to output plates from it? Seems to do a good job so far - just a shame someone deleted the stopper!

Dear Longy,
I am sorry to say that I am not a dealer for any software.
Its just I am curious in solving issues.
however, below is what you can try.
- For the files that go to your ctp, double click the file in the queue to check if the size is the same as the intake size of the ctp.
- Also do not forget to check the configuration path from the WinNT system to the CtP File input folder.
- Is it for all the jobs or for any specific job.
- If possible please attach a log file from the RIP/Sw folder
- If i am not wrong there should be direct .exe file for launching the stopper application.( If possible or if u remember the name of the stopper application correctly do a SEARCH for the file)
- If you do have a shortcut of your RIP on the desktop, the easiest way to find is to right click on it and then click on properties, click on find target. you may find active queues and held queues here. The jobs are here.
Apart from that I would like to know where do you live? May be I am too curious to solve the problem. Ar you in around UK???
Now coming to the efficiency , are you planing to change for a new CTP or a new software for the CTP??
As I think it would better to change the software than to the ctp. Do you just make a PS and then send it to the HQ Rip?..then there are several benefits which I think I will need to write a separate mail for that.
Let me know if this helps.
Cheers !!

Hi ya
Thank you for helping me out.
The stopper wasn't a application as such more of just a job in the active queue that never actually processed. Any jobs behind it in the queue would just stay in the active queue until we highlight the job we wanted to process after roaming it and moving it above the stopper job. In essenance we could queue files up in the active queue, roam them and then process them individually when we wanted, instead of keep disabling output all the time.
