Did anyone try bigg_Mark's solution of switching on HPS? If so, did it work?

Seeing as nobody replied I tried it anyway with a variety of settings.

Seemed to work well. The 'out of the box' setting worked as well as any other which is what the manual suggested. I tried clear and filled rosettes and upped the number of grey levels just to see if had much effect.

Some tints appeared darker but I think it might've been down to the press running without ink-presets - I put the test plates on the end of another run that used the same newsprint as the problematic job.

The rosettes all appeared to be much more obvious to me but at least there was no sign of 'patterning'.

I think more tests will be needed but HPS seems like a good idea if you're not already using it.
