Digital Printing/Fiery tidbit

Learn something new everyday...

The other day I printed a job on the Minolta (1st proof) and the customer complianed about the edges of the images (hi-res tifs) looking poor quailty and of course blamed the printer. We had the same problem last time with his job and I spent some time cleaning them up in PS reducing the sharpness.

So I call him back to the department and show on the screen how it's his images and they would print on press the same way and we don't have this issue with any other customers. We're printing out of indd btw...so he asks me to make a PDF, I do, then import it into the Fiery and presto...clean and sharp.

Something with the flattening in postscript that the PDF retains...

Is this the advantage of a full PDF workflow?
