gradients printed on the IGEN

Having a problem printing gradients with a 4% opacity on an IGEN.

Has anybody else experienced this and is there a fix?

First, how are you submitting the files to the iGen?
What file type is the gradient, applications used, etc...
If you are using DocuSP, the first thing I'd try is to turn OFF Pantone Color Matching.
And as always being sure all the wires, grids and the like are clean and in good shape.

Illustrator CS2 file carried on a Quark 6.5 sheet template - Pantone Colour Matching is off and everything seems to be clean. Had this problem on a 6060 as well except it wouldnt recognize anything under 5%.

thoughts?

Hmmm.... we don't have this issue. I know for sure as we printed a partial (25 copies) of a Annual Report 2 days ago that had a similar Illy gradient on every page. However it came out of INDD and not Quark.
Are you sending straight out of Quark? If so, try making a PDF and submitting that to the RIP. Just for kicks...
Via Hotfolder (if you have 2.6) and be sure the que is set to PDF instead of .ps under the Settings > Input > Format.
Also, what version of DocuSP are you guys running?
Just throwing it out there for now... post back and let us know how you make out.
Vee

hmmm, maybe i'm just asking too much from this machine. I always seem to be comparing the igen's product to our off set stuff which looks so much better. The RIP we're using btw is Creo's Spire v.4 (forgot to mention that earlier ops: )

I set up a quark sheet with gradients from illustrator, photoshop and quark itself and got the same results with all 3. Also tried a PDF directly to the igen as well and got the same results.

add 3 to 4 noise
add gausien blur 3

and try that

Try different line screens at the RIP. Remember to recalibrate for each attempt.

Are all the files including the gradients CMYK? If not, open all your files and make sure all spots are converted to cmyk and submit.
