Directowhat, you have exprience on the QM46 2?

I am also looking at a QM46 2 in Australia and was also wondering about registration of the 2 colours.
We currently use metal plates exposed on an Agfa flip top for our GTO52's with an accuracy of around 0.5mm - 1mm per Neg.

From my understanding the plates have to be spot on ( ie platesetter, punch etc. ) as there is no adjustment between the two colours ( Single Blanket ) only movement of total image by registering the sheet.
We have very good Press Operators, so hopefully this will help.

Our useage will only be 1-2 Colour Shortrun High Quality Work.

Am I on the correct path, or is this the wrong machine?

Thanks in Advance.

2 color printmaster

I dont have one. The reason i dont is because I need a versitile machine with lots of adjustments. I only have 2 duplicators with Theads. The jobs I send to a friend of mine would be 24 up 2 color Business cards with exact registration. He has a prosetter metal plate system he uses for the 2 color Heid 46-2 . and a26" Komori. Before the prosetter it was poly plates from a panther or a ripit. and film and plates for the Komori.
So he has been using the quickmaster with digital plates the whole time. I dont think you can use that press any other way except for accurate stripping of film.
Most of my work is a combination metal, laser plates and silvermaster depending on how the jobs come in.
But if i want quality 11x17 2/o exact regstration the little quickmaster is great.
I cant register the 2 colors down the whole legnth of a sheet with a t head so I give it to him otherwise Im running a bunch of 4 ups and they still wont fit.

My company has just bought a QM46-2 and it has movement between the two colors. The first head has to be fairly close, but then I register the two colors and then position them both on the sheet. What I really like about it is how the plates stay in register between runs. I just ran 5 sets of Business Cards 12-up on 8 1/2 x 11. As I ejected the plates and loaded the next set they were in the same position and dead on registration.

qm46-2

We have 2 qm46-2 and they are good little presses. they are not GTO's or SM52's but good just the same. they have good adjustment plate to plate.
it is easy to adjust diagonally, allbeit not as accurately as the sm52.
but I hear of people running 4 color on the machine.

also if your pressman is having trouble he is the problem not the machine.
your machine could have some quirks, but as long as the plate ejection rollers are clean and working and everything is in good working order, the machine will run. it took a while for us to retrain our pressman that the machine will work if you let it. some folks just want to have trouble with the new machine.
