Software Versions

In prepress I like to work in the same software version that the file is created with.

If the file is created in InDesign CS, then CS is what I use.

I am looking for a small piece of software that will indicate if a .indd is CS, CS2 or CS3

This software would also have to work with Quark & Illustrator.

I have been searching, but cannot find if anything exists.

You could try this

Open the file up in a text edit program like text wrangler.

In the header you will more then likey see the maker and what version.

Never tried it on all those files but this should work.

BBEdit will tell you the original creater and the version

Macdevin is right and text wrangler is the free version of BBedit, just open the file and close it, no damage will have been done. I haven't tried what Alamink suggested
