Do you use Adobe Print Engine based rip?
Is your rip licensed on Adobe Print Engine?
What rip do you use?
I have Rampage, which is NOT using APE (Adobe Print Engine).

I'm using Xenith Xitron Extreme... It has an Adobe core. I love it, very easy to learn, customize and runs like a striped assed ape!

MetaDimension. No.
I don't think the Adobe Print Engine is even released yet.
So most are not.
Meta 6.5 coming this fall I think.. maybe sooner, will have it as an option. Dongle / key code required.
Meta will let you use the Print Engine or the current CPSI simultaneously.
So if the version 1.0 is a flop, you can still be productive.

I have the same but I am thinking about switching from EPS using FontWizard ROOM workflow standard trapping to PDF files with ROOM using PDF trapping engine as more and more files come with some kind of transparency...

have you looked at the rip times associated with using the PDF trapping engine? Not sure what hardware you are on.

Interresting,...
We now have Prinergy 4 and we may select this "new" A.P.E. but we are using it cautiously because 1/2 the Kodak techs acknowledge that it's released and the other 1/2 refer to it as "basically still beta - use w/ caution"
We have actually had stellar results with it so far, it jammed right through a job that was locking-up the Trap process using the normal ps rip. However, I know another shop that uses Magnus platesetter and all jobs using APE would not plate! (not fun obviously) but we have a Trendsetter and don't have this problem.
Edit: the "normal rip" I refer to is CPS1

Like Cory said you need a fast PC because using the PDF Trap Engine is slower. Not that I care tho as about 60% of the files I now get use transparency and this beats the hell out of flattened PDFs when trapping is involved.

That's what we're seeing, non-flattened rendering didn't kill the Trap process where the flattened did.
