Agfa AccuSet 1000 rip upgrade

My boss has just asked me to find out if we can upgrade from a Hardware Star 400 Rip to a software harlequin rip on my Agfa AccuSet 1000. Well, I have been able to find out that I can purchase one. However, since the rip is so old I cannot locate any instructions on how I could hook up a modern PC or MAC to the imagesetter to get the RIP to work.

There is only an connector for a very old serial cable.

Does anyone have any resources or has anyone been through this?

Obviously the vendor I purchased this from no longer supports this imagesetter.

We are CTP or DTP on our offset work but still need to run film for the engraving portion of our business.

Any help would be greately appreciated.

I had one and it was connected via serial cable to a board installed into a Mac in my case. The PCI (full length) board was really expensive to replace - recalling $2500 CDN.

The Serial cable was about 1/2" in diameter and the plug at either end was at least 128 pin - really big. Look for a pairing rather than just the Accuset. Lots of boxes but the card and cable are the hard parts to find.

All though the answer to the question is no - I had not upgraded it, I bought it as a software version as the hardware version was too slow.

I think you can use SCSI.
