Green horizontal line showing wavy when digitally printed
Hi,
We're working with a logo that has a green (build out of just cyan and yellow) horizontal line that the edges of look a bit wavy when printed digitally on an Indigo press. It looks like the screen angle of cyan just doesn't work well with with a completely horizontal line. We're working with the press operator to see if there's anything he can do to fix it, but does anyone know of any prepress solution that might help?
Thanks.

Is there an option on your Indigo to use HP Adapive Halftone screening? That migt help. We utilize this on our HP Indigo 5000 occasionally. This adds dots to edges to allow for cripser edges, KO text, ect. It usually improves the issue. Other than that, you could try rotating the file if possible.

Or, you could try changing the screen ruling or screen type ie stochastic...

I'd agree with you for other processes, but although you can "change" the screening emulation on an Indigo, which might kinda sorta help (probably not), all screening options really all based on the Sequin screening (approx 144 lpi) so it might not really help. Can't really image true 175 lpi and certainly not stochastic unfortunately, and can't change the angles.

When we wanted to try different screen settings on our Indigo presses HP recommended creating custom screens in Photoshop and prescreen the jobs before ripping to the Indigo. As the image is now made up of solid tone only the Indigo rip does not appy its own screen to the job, but creating prescreened images in photoshop is painfully slow as the file sizes are huge. But it does work when nothing else will

Hey wow...hadn't thought of that one before. Kind of a pain in the but, but it could work in a pinch.

Circumvent standard screen angles. If your using process Cyan and Yellow, force the Cyan angle to 45° and leave the yellow at 90°. Ive seen the same problem printing 2/color newsletters when duo tones are used and printed at 75 and 105 degree angles. If one color is over powered it will result in a wavy line on the edge of the photo.
that's my 2¢, but if it's a penny for your thoughts then where's that extra cent going?
