Perfecting gripper and tail

Are the gripper and the tail the same in perfecting? ( that is ) If I have one inch on the gripper I need one inch on the tail.

Actually, depending on press, they do NOT need to be the same. (short answer obviously)

they don't need to be, you just need to be aware that the tail becomes your gripper on the second side and adjust your image accordingly.

we run perfecting jobs off center all the time.

depends on the whine of the pressman when he has to roll the cylinders for the proper back-up.

We center all of our perfecting jobs, just to make it easy for all involved. A lot of presses out there either can't roll the cylinders or if they can, it can only be rolled a 1/2 inch to 1 inch.

hope this helps,
David

As most, we center all of our jobs on the sheet perfecting or not. Having smaller presses, such as Ryobies, they can only roll 1/4" in either direction. W/Turn, W/Tumble, Sheetwise, etc., make ready is cut down dramatically if jobs are centered on the sheet. Using smaller presses also allows us to cut down our paper for sheet sizes just an inch or so over trim size so it works out.

We also center all of our pefecting runs. . . and move the colorbars back from the gripper edge so that the grippers don't "bite" into the bars.

Ouch! (that's when I forget to move them!) 8O
