I use Apple Remote Access for Mac to Mac access. VNC for PC to PC/Mac access. And Microsoft Remote Dekstop for Mac to PC access.

I use VNC...works out great..

most VNC servers also include a java client so you also remote access through the web if you don't have a client available.

I worked from home for a whole year (health reasons) outputting film using Timbuktu Pro. I could access both Macs and PCs from either platform.

I still made them buy me a Mac so I would have both platforms to edit files on locally, but I did it for a while using only my PC.

Can't really go wrong with VNC you might need open up ports on the router for access which may a security issue. I have always found for Windows server, terminal services better.

For getting round NAT / firewall issues, I tend to use Echoware VNC, which is slighly different as the Host PC is not passive like VNC but makes an outgoing connection to a server ( ihave running) to get round NAT and firewall problem.

What I was trying to say was that, yes there is different, but not better for cross platform remote access that I have used....

A great VNC ap is Hamachi, works on MacOSX, PC and Linus. Its a bit complex on mac but if your familiar with running aps in terminal.

Hamachi works really well getting around firewall etc that some IT deparments nazis block.
