Nexus FM Screening.

Anyone out there made or used any workflows with FM Screening?

I'm a little befuddled with the "Plate Cell Type" and "FM Scale" settings in the screening module.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and hopefully returned.

Also, are there any plans to get an Artowks/Nexus specific forum or are the number of installs just not there?

Thanks,

Tim

I would also be interested in a Nexus forum. I saw the FM screen samples from Artwork Systems and I will be trying them out in the next month. I liked what I saw, just not sure if it's right for every job.

A Nexus forum would rock!

We've been using Nexus for a few months. So far, so good. I love it. However, there are a lot of things, that I would like to to know, and share with other nexus users.

FM screening. We will be using this soon. We are calibrating our Platesetter, and playing with FlexoCal right now.

Later,
'Beaver

We've been using Nexus for 18 months now and truly love it. It has made life so much simpler than the old send it way of doing things (printing multiple times for proofing, plating, etc).

We have used FM screening some, but not extensively. When we started I basically ran a plate with multiple strips of the same image, one strip in each scale setting. Then throw it on press and pick the best one. Basically if I remember, the scale setting is the size of the "dot".

One thing to remember about FM screening is that you don't have as much leeway on press to adjust the color. You can, however, really load a lot of ink on the paper and it just keeps looking better.

Got some info

Okay,

First, thanks for all the input.

Second, I have a little info to share about FM screening in Artpro/Nexus.

The FM scale setting refers to device pixels used per dot. If you are running a 2438 or 2540 resolution platesetter than that works out to about 10 microns per device pixel. So a setting of 1 will give you a 10 micron dot, 2 will give you 20 micron and 3 will give you 30 micron etc, etc, etc.

We'll be running gain tests in about a week or two. I can't wait until I hand these plates to the press, they'll bitch and moan forever, but I hear it is harder to screw up stochastic jobs.

Next stop, 6 colour hexachrome at 20 microns.

Gammut, gammut go gammut, banana fana fo gammut.

Ohhh, I need a nap.
