Framemaker

I have a Client who is trying to send me a PDF exported out of Framemaker.

They can't seem to embed the fonts. Does anyone know where this would be located when exporting or saving as PDF from this application?

Thanks,

doesnt answer your specific question I know but.. If all else fails have them send the fonts with the pdf and use Pitstop to embed.

I know, but golly it takes them at least 3 tries to finally get us something we can use, been like this for 4ver - sometimes I try (in vain) to get them to think about what they are doing!!

I know absolutely nothing about Framemaker. Does it do a direct export similar to InDesign or do they have to make a PS and distill? The option to embed fonts is in Distiller. In InDesign it is in the PDF settings which one would think Framemaker would have if it's exporting directly to PDF.

Me either, but it is an Adobe product that exports/save as PDF much like all the Adobe products. Set up job options and go.

It's been a while since I had to use Framebreaker, but I don't think it supports anything above pdf 1.3. Someone will correct me. If you can get the native file and make a ps you may be in luck.

I believe the solution here is to ensure the client is using the correct PDF joboptions file.

When you use the Save As function in FrameMaker, you're prompted for which PDF profile to use, and if they're using something like "Screen" then you won't have embedded fonts. PM me if you need more detail. We have set up a "custom" joboptions file that we distribute to clients, labeled with our comapny name, and it helps tremendously with getting good PDF from most apps.

Replied to the "client" about the job option settings - "they have their techs looking into it". It has been about 4 days now, I'm thinking I'll get the trusty .ps file to use as my file.

Thanks all for the input -
