Quark quitting when printing

Hi
I am printing some color spreads of 17" x 22" from quark, they are ID files exported as eps and distilled as PDF and imposed in Quark.
The problem I am having is after I send more than 4 spreads the program (Quark) quits. I can only send about 3 or 4 spreads at a time.
I am printing from Quark 5 on a PC(windows XP) to a Harlequin rip on a mac(OS9).

Thanks

What happens if they are impossed in InDesign, then ripped?

You may end up being better served if you impose with the eps in Quark. I find
numerous problems arise when placing pdf files into Quark. Do you have to rip
from Quark for some reason? How big are the (memory wise) are the spreads?

could you be hitting a max file size on the windows box? imagine it's much like the mac, where it generates a spool file then sends to the printer

ok, we prefer the pdf from quark option because we have been getting good results actually its quite a long story, anyway these are the print settings on the windows machine.

The pdf files are about 1-2 mb, with 4 setup per page

Available PS memory 15625

Spool print document so program finishes printing fast

Start printing after last page is spooled

save a page to a .prn file and see how big it is...might give you an idea how large your spool file is ending up.

I could not find the option to save or print as a prn, but on the rip
it indicates the size of each spread to be about 250,000 Kb, at present
I am only able to send 2 spreads at a time and Quark quits. It seems that the more pages I print the problem seems to be getting worse. Is this a similar problem that Pagemaker had and a program called Eradicator was used. Any assistance will be greatfull

Thanks

You problem is most likely explained here:

or by Cory's comment above.

I don't have Quark 5 on my PC anymore, but...
I remember that you have to create a virtual printer for Quark to use for making .prn files.

How big (mb wise) is the .eps file you are distilling?
The .prn file will be slightly larger I believe.
How big (mb wise) is the .pdf file after distilling?

Total up all the files that are in the group and that is how much spool space you need.
