Servers

I'm currently pricing up servers and want some 2 peneth off you lot

We're after cheap as chips, reliability for dumping files on.

I've previously used Linux RedHat Raid and Apple xserve RAID

So come on bring the advice!

Anybody got any links etc for setting up ftp on a xserve (for our other plant)

Transmit also handy, inbuilt ftp is a bit flakey. There's something on the Macuser forums about it, damed if I can find the link though

Setting up an FTP is really eary, you can do it on your standard MAC too, Create a user for the FTP, then turn of FTP transfer in the sharing prefs, you're done.

Thank you please drive through....

XServe - No doubt.
For ftp, I created a Group > made a user for each client that uses my ftp site > also made a "guest account" for randoms > then shared out the folder > turned on the ftp service... and poof > runs like a champ!
Best,
Vee
