QC, Image compare - Looking for info on a Solution

Ok, My management is under the impression that there is software/systems available to use to compare 1 job to another. I know of solution for PDFs. Here's where it gets interesting. We have a huge library of film that is being moved to digital with copydot scans. A process that is less than fun and adding to that the company doing this has issues giving us clean EPS-DCS files. It seems 1 plate or another is always corrupt.

The management wants to take a proof of the film or a printed sample, feed into a machine with the new digitized version then get a report that shows the difference. This to me is just a crutch. But has anyone here heard of ANY thing like this?

I've never heard of anything like that and if there was I wouldn't trust it. The only thing that comes close is a good set of trained eyes and skill using Photoshop. When you make your adjustments in Photoshop you should "save as" to make a new file. This may fix your buggy files.

I agree. I think it's crutch and excuse for people NOT to do their jobs. I QC everything I work on, but my CSRs, Crewleaders, and others "Don't have the time" to QC anything. SO, If I miss something guess who gets the hammer dropped on them. They want this system. I say, "JUST CHECK THE F***ING WORK AND DO YOUR JOB!!!!!"

But I have to ask, so I can say NO such thing is out there.

Good Morning!
There are file comparison functions in some applications (ie: Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver) that will check lines of code. But for us prepress gods/dogs, there exists our experience.
Let your mandarins know that a CopyDot camera can introduce moir?, anything sent from an app to an output can/will differ from the same file sent to another imaging device/proofer & that their shopping list can change from the time wife/hubby voices it, to the home inspection of the bags . . .
Life is death!

ArtPro can compare the DIFFERENCES of 2 ArtPro files and show you on screen.
I've messed with it a little and seem to do OK.
I made a post on ArtWork Systems PPF and got no response.

Eyeballs...

Make a proof of the digitized version and compare it to the proof or printed sample of the film version. Works everytime.
