Never bothered to pop in here so here I am now.
My pre-press history:
Went to Central Missouri State University from 92-96. Graphic Arts Technical Management program. Started working for World Color in September of 96. Worked in the same building for 10 years while it changed names a few times. It think the most recent signs say it's called QuebecorWorld Pre-media. Watched from the front lines as our work changed from less than 2% digital on Scitex Assemblers, to 100% digital on Macs. Was downsized a few months ago and started searching the net for job postings. Found this place instead. Wish I'd found it sooner.

Hello fellow World Color alum. I've found that there is life after Quebecor.
You didn't by chance work at the St. Charles, MO. facility did you?

Yep, 10 straight years aside from a few trips to other facilities. Where were you? One of the facilities in Chicago I'm guessing?

Oddly enough I never really had a life WITH quebecor. I worked alot, but life? It kinda passed me by.
Assumed you worked in Arlington Heights, had forgotten about Salem. I sent film and files that way before it was quebecorized.

intro
Hello Everyone,
My name is Gene.
Here is some of my pre-press history.
I received a commercial art degree from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, CO.
My first job was in production-art for a specialty offset pad printer with presses designed to print on spheres: christmas ornaments, tennis balls, golf balls etc.
After five years I moved on to Michigan and worked in a small screen-printing shop mostly making t-shirts and stickers for bands. That was an awesome job, but the pay was low, no benefits.
I worked for a couple of years in an advertising placement agency in Cincinnati doing production art, variable data, and dabbled in web-to-print with Saepio.
Then I moved here to Madison WI.
I started a few weeks ago in the pre-press department for a commercial printer and I will soon be going for a week to San Diego for web-to-print training with Printable Technologies and Fusion Pro; so I am jumping into the online-fulfillment stuff head-on soon.
I have lurked around here for a couple of weeks and I can see there is a lot of experience here that could be helpful, and it looks like people have fun as well. I am glad to have found the place.
