I've not formally introduced myself on here yet so I will now. My name is Alan Guest and I work for Jennings Global in Yorkshire. We are part of the Impression Group of companies who specialise in Point-of-sale and outdoor advertising.
I studied Graphic Design at college to degree level but sold my soul to the repro devil two years after leaving. I have worked for Jennings since about 1992/3 with only a brief spell at the Intouch Group. During my career I have used Contex, Fullpress, all the major mac apps, Preps, ArtPro, Barco, PitStop, Prinergy, Pandora and most of Creo's suite of products. I am experienced in CTP litho and Flexo and I am the applications specialist at Jennings.
Jennings produce artwork and repro for the packaging, labelling, ticketing and POS markets and produce litho plates for the packaging industry

Guten Tag
I'm Fred and I work in Germany, but have a fully fuctioning english brain (well 78% is pretty good by today's standards) I don't have blond hair but lots of blond moments - I guess that comes from my scandinavian ancestors. I`ve worked in print on both sides of the floor for about 8 years - had a short out time as a teacher to learn American English but now back in full flow by packing offset and silk screen printers.
That's all .

Nice to have you with us Fred, I can't get here as often as I used to, but I do what I can. You might even find yourself in the Lounge with me.
Enjoy ppf

Hey Fred!
I think you qualify, you may be one of the smarter ones here, with the 78% thing, you for sure have me beat... my brain is mostly margarita with a little ink mixed in. Most of my hair is gone, but I have moments as well.. sometimes referred to as "senior moments"! HAHA!
Welcome to the club, glad to have you around.
cheers,
David
The beer truck is coming your way!

I've been lurking and posting since November but today I've finally gotten around to posting here.
My name is Paul Kubiak and I am the PrePress Manager of a small commerical printing company located an hour northwest of Chicago.
I started in this crazy business in 1996 right out of high school working on a small 1-color Halm Jet press. I moved from the pressroom after a year into PrePress doing Paste-up, platemaking, stripping, camera work, and typesetting, All the while working on my skills in applications such as Photoshop/Illustrator. Three years later I left to go to a larger company were I worked in Digital PrePress in every aspect from preflighting to imposition creation to page layout for 5 years.
I started in my current position in Sept. '04 and have been fixing things ever since. I am fluent in Prinergy and English and am attempting to master ApogeeX as a third language. I can't believe I've been in this trade for a decade already. If I've learned anything thus far, I've learned:
1.) Nothing "Works". It gets you by until the next crises.
2.) Being the jack of all trades saved my career.
3.) Unless CSR's and Sales started in PrePress, they will NEVER
understand why we "Can't just use the file".
4.) Everything is past due. Even the Jobs we haven't seen yet.
A few fun facts about me:
1a.) Nicknamed "Sea Monkey"
2a.) Graphic Artist in my spare time.
3a.) Complete 80's toy and movie geek.
4a.) I'm a second generation printer.
5a.) I like cheese.
That's all.
