Quark/RIP Problem printing Graphic

Ok, let me try to explain THIS one. Have a file in Quark with a placed K tiff in a picture box. The pic box is then filled with PMS 548. The graphic itself is left K. It produced a duotone when output previously."Not" the right way to do it, but it was done before. I have the negs to prove it. Now, the customer made some type changes but I'm essentially outputting the same file. But, now when I send to rip, the pms 548 plate shows the tiff image dropped out instead of that area being filled with the pms 548. Hopefully someone can explain this.

Is the area completely empty on the 548 plate, or can you see the image reversed out? If it is the latter, then you are just seeing the black image knocking out the 548 below it. Maybe what you really want is for the black image to overprint the solid 548? If so, you need to tell Quark to overprint the image using the Trap palette, then make sure your RIP is honoring that setting (Postscript Overprint.)
