Package Feature?
Question... why is it when one customer in particular packages a job for print out of INDD CS, CS2, and QUARK 6.5 the report says all fonts are in the package. When I add them to FontAgent Pro 3.x it tells me
"Problems:
9 duplicate screen fonts were found.
1 duplicate printer fonts were found.
14 printer fonts were missing screen fonts.
49 screen fonts were missing printer fonts.
8 duplicate Mac TrueType fonts were found.
2 duplicate Apple .dfont files were found."
What gives? It doesn't matter what kind of font she is using, I always have the same problems. Any ideas out there? TIA

Sounds like your customer has serious font problems on her machine and the package feature is trying to do its best to collect them. I have never found the ?package? feature of any software to be completely correct, even Flightcheck collect has problems sometimes. Unfortunately, I believe font issues will always be with us.

I agree... best said by first prepress manager, "I wish there was only 3 fonts, Arial, Times and the script of your choice." That would make things alot easier.

What about having this particular customer create hi res press ready pdfs with fonts embedded for you? Can you use pdfs in your workflow? And then, the big question, do you think your customer could learn how to create proper pdfs using Distiller.

Yes, my workflow is all pdf. And no.... not a chance. I have told her over and over again how to send me a pdf and she still biffs it some how. Once every blue moon she gets a good pdf over to me, you like Lt Head and BC type stuff - thats about it though.

I have a few of those customers. I just sigh and make good use of the font usage panel in each of the programs to see which fonts are actually being used in the document and zero in on those fonts which hopefully have been ?packaged?.

Suitcase X1 which is OK (still some font bugs). I've got my fonts pared way down. (See font forum under OSX on this site). I have no fonts stored anywhere except for those in the HD/System/library/font folder and a special folder that I've set up for Suitcase to use. I copy the customer fonts into that folder and load them into Suitcase. By paring down the fonts on my system I know that I don't have any other fonts except those left in the system and the customer's fonts. This makes for easier font troubleshooting when I activate the customer supplied fonts.

I use Suitcase also, which comes with Font Doctor. We use that to clean out the duplicate fonts and orphans and make some repairs so that they load better.
Does FAP have a similar function?
