Heidelberg QM-46-4 QuickMaster DI on ebay right now...

For anyone that cares...

http://tinyurl.com/bvcrh

They want like $80k for it

How does a "AGFA ChromaPress 32i" or "Xeikon model DCP 32D" compare to the Heidelberg QM-46-4 DI? I've seen those on ebay for about 1/4 the price of that Quickmaster DI.

The AGFA chromapress was and is an "interesting machine". We are an Agfa shop and new personnaly a couple of the people who headed up that project and lets just say that they are no longer there and to my knowledge Agfa no longer sells the machine, not sure about sefvicing it.

We saw the demos in there corporate headquarters in NJ back in 98 or 99 and they were having problems with ripping time using variable data and they wanted you to buy an alpha cache in order to pre-rip files, store them, and then use them for production of variable data.

It was not so great technology 7 years ago, so I can't imagine a used one would be all that good.

That's my less than 2 cents

Couldn't you still get parts/service from Xeikon since it is an OEM'd machine or whatever?

I had one the same year / same model DI machines. I loved it. The press guy loved it. Ours had a Delta RIP, whatever.

I send it back as the market tightened up making it not as profitable. Biggest expense was the plates and accessories. Oh did I forget the outrageous parts and service costs from Heidelberg.

If you have the work and the market isn't depressed around you, this machine makes money but (always the but) the parts are REALLY expensive.
