Show me your job tickets!

We are in the process of redesigning our job tickets and I need some ideas/ help. It's old and out dated.

Hello all, I'm interested in understanding more about job tickets, i'm going to learn all about ApogeeX very soon. Is a job ticket just a digital docket?, if not explain to me exactly what it is. Can in i also get a copy of the pdf version to examine what a job ticket is.

Seagull, the type of "job ticket" I'm talking about here is the actual paper ticket that travels with the job through the shop. Not all shops still use a paper ticket, but some like ours still do.

The electronic "job ticket" that is part of ApogeeX is, I believe, more or less a set of instructions for the RIP on how to process a page. Things like wether or not to convert spot colors to cmyk, how much trapping to put in etc.

You might try your question in the Agfa section for a better response.

Hope this helps!

Lammy would I love to update ours also 8O we still use DOS estimating software and have a Dotmatrix Printer output our "tickets" that are so strange, if you didn't work there for 10 years you could never understand them, well I still don't but just put my initials next to DTP and PlateStream and hope for the best

our place?we still have what we call a "job bag"

it has estimate stuff?board details?samples?printed samples?approved copies to match to?all that kinda stuff inside?each department from commercial thru finishing use something in there

on the outside there's tons of info?for everyone except repro?well hello!

we get a small box with tiny instructions you can just read if you squint hard enough.

wish I was allowed to update ours.

on the other hand we do get an instruction sheet when artwork comes in ya know?cd supplied?cromalin proof, spot colours, plan to 8 up w/turn?that kinda stuff.

we get this instruction sheet while we proof the job. when its approved the job bag itself finds its magical mystical way to us.

Does anybody here utilize some sort of desktop Job jacket/Job Tracking? We've been in the process the last several months of writing some software for tracking page proof, corrections, billable labor entry, scanning information etc. Just wondering if anyone else has desktop entry for job jackets and any incite as to how well yours works...

The design agency I worked for built their own system in Filemaker. It was actually pretty good.

I also recall seeing a really great system, again built in filemaker, that was specifically for commercial printing. I say it at a Sybold or macworld. Shame is, I don't remember what it was called.

Job Manager by Meta Communicatins is what we use. It's a very nice software. Easy to track jobs.
Enter job orders, track and enter billable and non billable time and services and create invoices.
We've been using them since 1999, just awesome software.
