Topaz software

Does anyone know what, if any, new scanning software will work with a Topaz scanner. Our current software is Linocolor 3 and needs a Nubus card to run so its stuck on an 8100 Mac. I would like to move the scanner to a faster machine. Thanks

Mark,

We have the same situation. We have ours hooked to a PM 9600 with a SCSI card and LinoColor 3 (I believe). (I don't do the scanning here.) When I called Heidelberg last year, I could move it to a newer Mac, but they quoted me the price for the software upgrade at about $4500.
We decided to leave it on the 9600...

everything I have read indicates that this scanner was supported in OS X with Newcolor 2.5.6. But Heidelberg has dropped support of it.

have a feeling your are going to be SOL on this one.

Vuescan or silverfast doesn't offer support either.

SilverFast Ai STUDIO supports Linotype TOPAZ scanner

Dear Topaz Users,

we are happy to announce that we have, after hard work, managed to support the Linotype-Hell TOPAZ scanner under Mac OS-X TIGER.

We are currently in final testing and have even succeeded to do 16 bit scans with SilverFast Ai STUDIO for TOPAZ. We have already tested different SCSI-Cards with Macs G4 and G5 and also got the scanner working with a G5 under FireWire with a BELKIN adapter.

Expect the official announcement on our website in a few days!

best regards

Firewire!? That's sweet! Nothing like a faster pipeline in...

Next question, does it have to be a G5? Or any Firewire-capable Mac?
(I don't want to have to use SCSI cards if I don't have to...)
