FrameMaker PC to Acrobat PDF with Spot color

This issue comes to me from one of our other divisions. It stretches across several apps, hence my posting to this general forum.

They are being provided with PDFs generated from Postscript written from FrameMaker on Wintel platform. The final result is *supposed* to be a black and PMS spot color job. But naturally, being FrameMaker PC, everything but images comes through as RGB color.

The file creator is firmly entrenched in the position of not doing anything differently. They maintain that old song, "We give these same files to printer X and they never have any problems."

We could use Pitstop to convert colors to K and spot, but there's plenty of risk associated with that. Is anyone aware of third party tools that might have actually enabled the phantom "Printer X" to easily produce two color results from such PDF files?

Pit Stop Pro is the way to go. If you are excepting PDF's you can't work without it. Of course there are other tools to work on PDF's but IMO PSP is the best.
