You could possibly convert it to a level 2 EPS and they could probably output that on a level 2 RIP as long as it isn't their calibration that is screwy.

Spoke to the printers today, apparently they have a level 3 RIP, and they output successful film to it all the time, so I dunno what's going on there.

Actually I've spoken to several printers in my area today. One was able to RIP the file with no problems, however, on revealing that I wanted to provide my own stock, they got really quite rude and in my face about how my stock would jam their presses (I've no idea how offset-litho approved stock would jam a sheetfed press, but hey).

I've approached another printer for a quote that's fine with using my stock -- if it's a good price and the PDF RIPs fine (they use ApogeeX, so it should if it went through Eyetech's), I think I'll cut myself loose from my printers and go with the new ones.

I will let you all know how it turns out. Fingers crossed.

Update -- My current printers have now outputted the file to film again, and it turned out fine...I have no idea why it didn't work the other 2 times, but I'm just glad it works now.

It's going on press on Monday. I'll post back with a pic of the printed cards.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone (except pointyhat ;p) for their help, especially Joe.

On the plus side, I've learned so much more about prepress trying to fix this problem than I would have if everything had gone smoothly. Every cloud....

Cheers guys
