Should we be worried? Esko and Prinergy

I hope someone can give me some insight here... Looks like the company I'm with now (just got bought out) is considering buying Prinergy for the plants company wide. Currently, we are about the only prepress (using Esko) in the whole company and the powers that be are making noise about putting Prinergy in all the plants.

What I'm worried about is that they want to get rid of us here. I don't know much about Prinergy... sounds a lot like the Esko workflow situation to me, but I understand it's cheaper?

Just re-read my question... I don't know much about Prinergy, is it a workflow that automates everything? Is it used for trapping? Is there still a need for operators to manipulate the files for printing or is it some kind of totally automated system? We have about 6 operators here and we're using Esko.

Relax.

I think you'll like Prinergy, although I don't know much about Esko.

It is basically a workflow solution and will not take your job. It allows you to control how Pdfs are handled through the workflow and gives you a nice interface from where you can map colours, impose, proof and plate.

It is far from perfect and will still require file manipulation and trouble-shooting (unless all your clients are PDF geniuses)!

I've been using it for over 6 years now and had the training direct from Creo. I'll try to answer any specific questions when posted.

I know about Esko, but I think you'll be fine with Prinergy.
They are all close to the same thing, same goal in mind, they just use a different terminology for the same processes.

As bluekivi stated, you will still have the ability to massage and correct, and do what you've always done to get the job on press (just like in Esko).

cheers and good luck,
David

thanks

Sorry to sound so paranoid, but this is the 4th buyout we've gone through and every time there is noise about getting rid of prepress.

Sounds like it might work for us. I'm going forward with an open mind to the change. Thanks for your responses here.

i understand where you are coming from, but sometimes a well placed rumour can acheive miracles....
