Looking at Suite 7

I would like very much to contact users of Esko graphics workflow systems in commercial print environments.

We are a commercial printer, 5-color sheetfed offest, Xerox iGen3, Xerox Docutech, Xerox Nuvera and Onyx rip to large format poster/banners.

Our goal is a unified workflow to all devices with reliable proofing and output. Moving to pdf NORM workflow is a leap of faith when we consider that while files are processed by a central normalizer/refiner, they will still be interpreted by different RIPs at output.

Anyone using Esko have experience with these issues or willing to speak with me about the Esko products (or others), please reply or PM contact info.

thanks,

stephen

We are current users of the Scope V3 workflow, soon to go to the Suite 7.

We (as you can tell from my sig), have various output devices and we've been using Esko for over 10 years now.

What problems are you anticipating?

more esko

Biggest concern is master file consistency. Sure when same RIP processes, e.g. once for proof and again for plate, not likely to have an issue. But, when process for say soft proof, then move to Xerox DocUsp for iGen there are two interpretations happening and as we know, "something" different may happen.

Your thoughts?

stephen

The biggest "thing" that may happen, is not in the RIP so much, but at the actual output device. Some will handle color (like in the size of the gamut) differently, so you may have to make some modifications due to that. Maybe with an output curve, or some form of color management.

We've been known to do both on some jobs, depending on the output device and the job stock.

We have on all our devices the standard Esko FlexRIP, so that helps, but we still have differences in the device itself.
Say like, our HP 5000 takes a composite 1-bit tif, whereas my Lotem 800 needs a separated 1 bit tiff. The HP 5000 will put a butt load of ink on the paper for a heavy coverage job (rich blacks and such) so we have to put a serious curve on it to just be able to read it.

but, that is life in prepress,
hope this helps,
David

steppy,

sound like kelidoscope is what you are after. you can tag all your pdfs with profiles (ekso or ICC). they call it OutRight. so just a matter of profiling all of your devices, presses. your file would never be processed twice, different device = different profile, check your pm's i have more info for you
