hi gilos,

we run the full esko workflow in our flexo shop, and have since we opened 10 years ago. also have both hardware and software contracts. couldnt imagine doing what we do without the esko tools.

firstly, its very modular, so you can really taylor it to your needs and not buy software you will never use. support is very good, we only see the software guy when new versions are released or we want to demo something new (which they will happily give us a 2 month licence). and thats mainly because not much goes wrong!. hardware guys are in more often, but thats mostly because of the ageing CDI

i'll list a few things that we couldnt live without

Backstage. i rate it 10/10, biggest time saver ever. fully control via by the pilot app, or jdf hot folders. easily links in with mis systems.

Colortone. the only real app available that gives you a decent on screen preview of multi colour images. really valuable if working on 7 color process images or pantone on pantone simulations.

Smarkmarks. all of our step and repeat info marks ect , proofing slips, everything is automated with smartmarks.

Kelidoscope. profile and manage any colour set (eg why pay for opaltone when you can make your own)

Packedge. for us, a great set of tool specificially for flexo

theres dozens more thing i could list, but overall i think the esko products are reliable and repeatable

hope that helps

haven

We've been using Esko since 1996.
It's one of the best like haven stated.
We also run the full suite as well (see my sig).

Some of the features:
unlimited colors
unlimited screenings on a page
able to tag any image with a curve (or no curve), independent of any other images
full auto workflow's (hot folder, normalizing, trapping, imposing, sending to a printer) with no human intervention.
e-mail notification

We'll be getting the update to V4 (Software Suite 7) sometime this summer with the full live transparency functionality.

"What makes Esko's workflow automation server so sexy"

good luck,
David

not sure what you mean, are you saying I am limited to 32 colors?

I've done more than that in some jobs we do.

Still don't know what that means (even after taking the quiz)

Separations can also include colors other than CMYK, and if there is a limit at the RIP, you can send the files to the RIP in more than one send.

Voila!
No limits.

dear david;

i create one document with 67 seperations (or colors or inks) in packedge and launch with flexrip (T4) (i guess this means PackEdge support more than 64 seperations). Finally i see 62 seperated files in output directory. please try this GRS file with your system:
http://rapidshare.com/files/36528700/max_sep.grs.html

i guess information in exam incorrect :S

I think there is a problem with your file.
I output it as is and got 62 seps.
Then I noticed that I was missing some colors that were from PMS 106 through PMS 110. I replaced those colors and re-sent the file, all 67 colors showed up.

I guess their documentation is either incorrect or it means something else.

there is definitely a 32 colour limit for FlexripApproval, we can never send more that many seps to the kodak. that file above drops a few colours as stated above for me too. on both flexrip and flexproof

david, had much of a play with ESS7 yet? have had the beta installed for a few weeks and it looks the goods!. mainly plato having grid (formula) based step and repeat. being waiting for that for a long time. the full trans support will be great too.
