preserving layers in photoshop to Esko

Hi everyone... new here...

I'm trying to send over a layered Photoshop file to Esko and hoping I can keep the layers. Any suggestions? I've tried saving as .psd and .tif... no luck so far.

Thanks

Sorry, but Esko will flatten any layers, similar to most apps like them.
It will recognize additional channels.

What version of Esko and what app?

Have you tried to save the layers out independently and bring them back together in FastEdit/PackEdge (on separate layers)?

Thanks for the feedback. We are using 3.0 Pilot and 5.0 Backstage Edit (if that's what you mean). We are editing and saving the .ps files on a mac (cs2).

Yes, we ended up sending the layers over separately... it would just be nice to have them come over in neat little layers

Thanks again

yeah, that's about the only way to get photoshop layers to come over intact that I know of.

Illustrator layers will come over when you save it as an .epf file, but, alas, there is no "epf" file for PS.

Could you tell me what you have on the layers that you need to keep separate?
Have you tried to make a new channel out of the layer to see if that would do any good?

good luck,
sorry I couldn't be more helpful,
David

There was a background with a kind of graduating "hole" in the middle of it on one layer, then a splash of liquid (duotone) above that, then a piece of fruit above that, then other various art. The arthouse set the file up as a cmyk image and they want us to map the images to special colors... but as you can imagine, it's not as simple as mapping cmyk and you're done  It worked ok to send the images over separately then map them separately... just thought it would be nice if they would come over as separate layers and separate images from ps.

I'm not sure about making a new channel... I can get around on a mac, but we have people here that are better at that than me, and I had to get to work on another project.

Thanks for your help. I'm glad I've found this forum... could be handy... somehow I like this better actually than making a call to Esko... seems to be hassle... you call, they have to call you back, then when they finally get back, you have to be reminded of what question you asked since there is no documentation of the question... and by that time, you're working on several other problems! Too bad they don't have an website for troubleshooting, etc. I've always wished that there was a place we could go for simple answers to problems that others have already sifted though.

Thanks again,
Allison

Sorry, I didn't notice that your a newbie here!
Welcome to PPF!

Glad you found it helpful.

Esko does actually have a new "forum" website, but if you post a question, it may take days to get an answer, and in some cases, they will tell you to place a call and open a log.

Bart Meersschaert (aka Black Bart) also has an Esko site, it has some training movies and some other stuff.
Check it out, it's worth a look see.

Cheers and good luck,
David

if you tick the "keep native and verify" option (either in the backstage ticket or when opening in packedge) it will just keep the psd file and relink. or place the psd directly into packedge. good opion if not using colortone
