Mac Comapatablity
Dave,
Do you think they will every port the Fastimpose and Edit to the OSX?
We are a smaller shop that would benefit from that. I would love to be able to setup macs that could rip edit and impose as we had done before with the Brisque.

As far as features in 3.0:
- I'd like to see some improvement in the way tasks are added to forks and workflows. I don't feel comfortable not seeing the settings in a forked task.
- There are times I would like to link a task, rather than copy that information into a workflow.
- Some added JDF support? Exporting a ticket as a template JDF would be incredible, and surely get more people on board.
- Ticket sorting? We currently have 375+ tickets configured. Grouping them into folders would be helpful.
Anyone have anything else to add to the wishlist? I'm curious as to what other people are using & would like to see improved.

They actually did at one time (I think) have fastedit on the mac, but if I'm not mistaken, it was like dog ass slow. Never really tried it myself, I think I saw a demo in Dayton once.

yeah, my wishlist is mostly app fixes, I like the ticket group thing, we got ton's of those too. I believe more JDF support is to be added, not sure to what degree, tho.
should be fun!

Workflow
I would be interested in finding out how others have setup thier workflows?
We have a single license of each and experiencing bottlenecks when trying to get to Edit and Fastimpose. We handle jobs from stationery to brochures.
We handle alot of small jobs that turn quickly and keep the operators jumping on and off the macs to get to impose. How would you suggest we handle these issues?
I have just visited some former collegues at a shop where they use Brisque 5.0 with the interface running on the macs. With the addition of Preps and Presstouch on each mac they have a one seat operation. They prep, setup and manage the queue, preview the riped files and edit traps if needed along with building and viewing the imposition.
This is what I would love to acheive but not sure it would every be possible with the ESKO product, at least today.
I beleive that the industry trend is to be Mac based and open to 3rd party imposition software along with some editibilty plugins for Acrobat. Does anyone else see Esko moving in a different direction? All the leading workflows are PDF based and intergrate with Preps and plugins to Acrobat for trapping and editability.
The market place is made up of very diverse workflow needs and budgets. Some of my wish list include Fastimpose and Edit for the mac or at least editing from Acrobat with pluggins, and acceptibility of 3rd party impo software. I know it is nice to have a flagship product like Edit and Fastimpose, but we are not all in the league of Williamson Printing.

Do any of Esko's AI plugins with Deskpack handle your needs? They have some export, trapping and step and repeat tools. We use a couple of these with some success, but I'm not sure they cover all your needs.

Scope,
Our current set up for our stripping/prepress workstations:
6 macs all loaded with every available app (quark 5 7 6; ID 2, CS, 7 CS2; Illy 10, CS, CS2; etc) and 6 PC workstations loaded with a full set of Esko/Barco apps (Pilot, Backstage Edit, and Fast Impose all fully licensed) in addition to any PC versions of the Mac software (Quark, ID, and Pagemaker, etc.).
The end result is we can, with just a few people, really knock out some work.
No bottlenecks here.
Cheers,
David
PS. This is not all the macs and pc's we have, these are just the ones loaded for stripping/impositioning purposes.
