Remapping Colors to Gray

For quite a while I have been using Pitstop to convert RGB blacks and grays to 100K, etc. I have been doing this by using Global change, grabbing the color and changing it to 100K, this has worked pretty well. The big problem is that it can be tedious, I have to select each different RGB gray color separately and assign the K value manually. I decided I want to automate my process a little by using action lists.

I am trying to use the "Remap All to CMYK + Gray" action list and having no luck. The blacks and grays are all converting into CMYK. I have turned off color management which I expected to fix the problem but it didn't.

What else do I need to do, or does this action list not really do what it says it will?

The "Remap All to CMYK + Gray" Action List will make sure that you're only end up with DeviceCMYK + DeviceGray color space. So any Calibrated color space or impure Gray (such as RGB/CMYK gray) will be converted.

Why don't you work with a color range instead of selecting all tints? You can say e.g. select all RGB objects that have a range between 0 and 5 RGB.

You can use the remap color action for this. It's easy because you can add different configurations in the same action.

Just beware that this will only work on flat colors (cfr. text and line art objects). Images are a whole different ball park.

Cheers

I hate to beat a dead horse here, and I think Brain knows what I'm talking about, but I have to say that Callas pdfColorConvert and Apago PDF Enhancer can handle RGB gray/black a lot easier than PitStop does. It's not that PitStop doesn't do a good job, it's just not that easy to do it "well" like it is with the other products.
