Removing ICC profiles problem

Using Acrobat Pro 6.0.4 and PitStop Pro 6.51 on Mac.
I've got a customer-supplied PDF that has everything tagged with U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 profiles. My color-management-ignorant RIP is converting everything, including 100k to 4c black. There is no printing involved, just dropping the PDF into the RIP as is.

I used the an Action List called "Remove ICC" (I believe it is a default action that ships with PitStop) to strip out the tags, but the rip (Creo PSM 7)still does the same thing. How can I get the PDF to keep the colors intact? I am not doing any sort of conversion at any point inthe workflow - just passing data straight through, but something is getting converted somewhere.

The only way around it that I could find was to place the PDF into InDesign (I keep CM turned off) and print to a postscript.

Printing from Acrobat is also posible. Advanced setting = Colormanagement = same as source no colormanagement.

I hope that you have more actions in your default action list. If your running pitstop on a mac there are a couple of others you should try before trying to remove the US swop profile. The firast one to use would be to remove opi information. Sometimes this feature can lock a file and prevent other actions from working. Also try removing halftone screening in the pdf as images with embedded profiles can override RIP settings. It would be a good idea to preflight your document to see if there are any other issues with it. you could also try exporting the postcript from acrobat and then distilling your file as you would normally. Hope this helps.

check that the remove icc is doing everything and not just images, I had the same problem, tagged text from indesign was printing CMYK even though it was only 100% black, there might be a setting in your rip also that overrides colour management.

yeah,

inspect a few elements on the page. What you also can do is using Action Lists to keep your black text 100%K only. You can use a select color or color range to grab the specific color then combine that with a select text segments and you can change that to any color you like.
The same thing for line-art.

Images are more tricky. Are you only working with B&W images?

Cheers.

Dan, I'm on my treo right now so I don't have a screen to look at but it may be the case that the objects were already converted to 4/c text and were just assigned a profile during the conversion. If that is the case then you'll need to use global change to select the text and change it to k only. Of course other object you'll have to worry about too. Including any gray elements including images.

Thanks for the recent replies, but the thread is so old that I no longer remember what job it was for!

I didn't try Pitstop Pro 6.5 but it looks like Pitstop Server 3.0 removes ICC only from RGB objects.

That would surprise me, actually. Are you using a PDF Profile or Action List to remove ICC Profiles?

Cheers.

Yeah, the last time I looked at the action list it just said "remove icc profiles" which would mean "select all" and then "remove icc profiles". It PitStop 7 you have to be a bit more explicit and specifically say "select all" "remove icc profiles". Or "select images" "remove ICC profiles" to remove profiles from images. Although you might actually want to say "select images" "not" "AND" "remove icc profiles". That way images keep their profiles but everything else looses them.
